Combined Wellness Solutions

The Story Behind Combined Wellness Solutions

Combined Wellness Solutions was founded in 2019 by Steven Pickett, whose personal experience with a spinal cord injury led him to recognise the gaps in rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities. Throughout his recovery, he encountered firsthand the challenges of accessing specialised care, particularly for those with various neurological conditions.

Motivated by these experiences, Steve set out to create something different—a space designed not just for rehabilitation but for long-term support, community, and empowerment. His vision was to build a clinic where individuals of all abilities could access expert care in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

At Combined Wellness Solutions, we specialise in neurological rehabilitation, offering personalised support to help individuals regain mobility, improve function, and enhance their quality of life. Our mission is to provide a safe and encouraging space where clients feel understood, supported, and empowered to achieve their goals—no matter their starting point.

Today, our team of exercise physiologists continues to uphold this vision, ensuring that every person who comes through our doors receives the care, knowledge, and encouragement they need for a more inclusive, independent, and more fulfilling life.

How We Work at Combined Wellness Solutions?

At Combined Wellness Solutions, we specialise in exercise physiology for individuals with neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions, along other conditions. Our goal is to create a supportive, accessible, and empowering environment where clients can improve their movement, function, and overall well-being. Our approach is highly personalised, considering each client’s medical history, abilities, and goals—both in and outside the clinic. Here’s what you can expect when working with us:

Comprehensive Assessment Process

Every new client begins their journey with an initial assessment, where we take the time to understand their medical history, current abilities, and personal goals.

We believe that exercise should have real-life benefits, so goal setting is a core part of our process. While in-clinic improvements are essential, we also help clients achieve functional, everyday goals, such as:

  • Regaining independence—for example, being able to transfer on and off the toilet without assistance.

  • Increasing mobility—such as taking longer walks with a dog or accessing public spaces with stairs.
  • Improving daily function—making everyday activities easier and less physically demanding.

We consider mobility levels, cognitive function, sensory needs, and other factors to tailor our sessions and maximise outcomes.

Our Treatment Approach

Exercise physiologists are experts in how movement and exercise trigger physiological responses in the body. We use this knowledge to design structured, evidence-based programs that support functional improvements.
For example, for a stroke recovery client, we may start a session with a cardiovascular component before focusing on functional movement training, as research shows this leads to better motor recovery and engagement.
Specialised Equipment & Hands-On Support

At Combined Wellness Solutions, we understand that traditional gym equipment isn’t always suitable for individuals with disabilities and other mobility issues. That’s why our clinic is equipped with:

  • Assistive gait training devices – including frame walkers and parallel bars.
  • Harness-supported treadmill training – providing safe and effective walking practice.
  • Adaptive strength and mobility tools – designed for those with limited movement or coordination.
  • Hands-on assistance – including manual facilitation and hoist transfers when required.

However, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every program is tailored to the client’s needs, interests, and goals, ensuring sessions are both effective and enjoyable.

Programs & Services

We offer a range of services to suit different needs and accessibility levels:

  • 1:1 In-Clinic Sessions – Private, hands-on exercise sessions in our fully equipped facility.
  • Home & Mobile Services – Bringing expert care to clients who prefer or require therapy in their own space
  • Hydrotherapy – Water-based rehabilitation to enhance movement, strength, and pain management.
  • Telehealth Services – Virtual sessions for those who need guidance remotely.

Our Multidisciplinary Approach

To ensure continuity of care, we regularly provide progress reports and reassessments to:

  • Support coordinators – to ensure NDIS plans are aligned with client needs.
  • Primary carers and family members – so they stay informed and involved.
  • Other healthcare professionals – including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists.

Client-Centred Experience

Every client is different—not just in their physical abilities, but in their motivations, interests, and engagement levels.
We take the time to understand what keeps our clients engaged and motivated, ensuring each session is both effective and enjoyable. Whether it’s incorporating games, music, functional activities, or alternative movement strategies, we adapt our approach to suit the individual.

Accessibility & Inclusivity

At Combined Wellness Solutions, we are committed to inclusive care for all abilities. Our team has an in-depth understanding of:

  • How different physiological responses impact movement and exercise.
  • How to modify exercises for varying ability levels.
  • How to create a welcoming and supportive space for clients from all backgrounds.
