What is exercise physiology?

Clinical exercise designed around your health

Accredited Exercise Physiologists are university-qualified allied health professionals who use exercise as medicine. Unlike a general fitness program, clinical exercise is prescribed for people living with injury, disability, chronic disease or complex health needs.

We begin with an assessment of your movement, strength, balance, capacity and goals. Your clinician then builds a program that is safe, measurable and connected to the things you want to do more independently.

  • Improve strength, balance and walking capacity
  • Reduce pain and build confidence with movement
  • Increase independence in everyday tasks
  • Manage long-term health conditions safely

These comments are from real CWS clients and families who have consented to their testimonials being shared.

“Combined treat everyone like family, the establishment is super, and the instructors are the best I have ever experienced. I have improved so much since being at Combined, I absolutely love attending, and hate to miss a gym session.”

Veronica, Stroke

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to see an exercise physiologist?

Private clients can book directly, with no referral needed. For Medicare rebates you need a Chronic Disease Management plan from your GP. WorkCover, DVA and NIISQ clients need the relevant referral or approval. We can help you work out what applies to you.

Are you a registered NDIS provider?

Yes. Combined Wellness Solutions is a registered NDIS provider, so we can work with agency-managed, plan-managed and self-managed participants. Exercise physiology is usually funded under Improved Health and Wellbeing or Improved Daily Living.

Where are your clinics?

Our Gold Coast clinic is at Unit 4 / 39 Lawrence Drive, Nerang. Our Ipswich clinic is at 260 Brisbane Street, West Ipswich. We also offer home visits across most of the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan and the Brisbane southside, plus telehealth across Queensland.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in, any referral or plan paperwork, and a list of current medications. Your first session focuses on assessment, goals and making sure the program feels right for you.

What is the difference between an exercise physiologist and a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists often focus on diagnosing and treating injuries, including hands-on care. Accredited exercise physiologists use clinically prescribed exercise to build capacity, manage chronic conditions and support long-term rehabilitation. Many clients benefit from both professions working together.
