Our story

Combined Wellness Solutions was founded in 2019 by Steven Pickett, whose personal experience with a spinal cord injury led him to recognise the gaps in rehabilitation services for people with disabilities. After sustaining a T12 spinal injury in 2011, Steve encountered firsthand how hard it was to access specialised, long-term care, particularly for neurological conditions.

Motivated by that experience, he set out to create something different: a space designed not just for rehabilitation but for long-term support, community and empowerment: a one-stop-shop facility where people of all abilities can access expert care in a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Today our team works from clinics inNerang andWest Ipswich, in hydrotherapy pools, in clients’ homes across South East Queensland, and over telehealth, supporting everyone from children with cerebral palsy to veterans, injured workers and great-grandparents determined to stay independent.

What we believe

  • Potential outlasts prognosis. With the right training, people keep improving years after everyone said they would plateau.
  • Exercise is medicine when it’s properly prescribed. Dose, progression and safety turn movement into treatment.
  • Access is part of the treatment. If you can’t get to therapy, therapy should get to you. Hence home visits, pools and telehealth.
  • Goals belong to the client. We measure success in your terms: steps, showers, workdays, beach walks.
  • Teams beat silos. We communicate properly with your GP, specialists, therapists and coordinators.

About CWS: your questions answered

What does “accredited exercise physiologist” actually mean?

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) holds a four-year university degree and accreditation with Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA), with mandatory clinical hours across neurological, cardiac, metabolic and musculoskeletal conditions. It is what allows our services to be funded by Medicare, NDIS, WorkCover, DVA and NIISQ.

What makes CWS different from a physio clinic or gym?

We sit in between, and cover what both miss. Unlike a gym, every program is clinically prescribed and supervised by a university-qualified health professional. Unlike most clinics, our specialty is long-term capacity building for neurological injury and complex disability, delivered wherever works: clinic, pool, home or online.

Do you only see complex or disability clients?

No. While neurological injury and disability are our specialty, we welcome anyone who benefits from clinical exercise: chronic pain, heart health, diabetes, injury rehab, healthy ageing and more.

How do I get started?

Call 1300 018 328 or use our booking form. No referral is needed for private clients; for NDIS, Medicare, WorkCover, DVA or NIISQ we will tell you exactly what paperwork applies and help you organise it.
